Why give to the Smile Fund?

This program grants mini wishes for EB children who need some happiness. These smiles not only benefit the child, but allow the entire family some memories they can keep close to their heart.

By generously donating today you can be a part of creating those memories and, most importantly, making an EB child smile.

Grace Catherine Peshkur, RDEB
March 29, 2002 - May 17, 2009

Grace shared her story of battling Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa in the hopes that a cure would be found. EB ravaged her body but not her mind. Her days were spent enduring long dressing changes, hospital visits, therapy and the list goes on and on. She loved her pink power wheelchair but hated the stares from others. With over 85% of her skin denuded, each day was a struggle.  She was frustrated that she could not do all the activities of her friends. Grace was a miracle who lost her battle to this awful disease on May 17, 2009. We will cherish her memories and her smile forever.

Living with EB is traumatic for the individual suffering and the family, and Grace wanted others to be happy even though she was in so much pain herself. As a family, we learned to cherish each moment and make the best of an unfortunate situation. Grace was a hero to her core and a beauty through and through.

EB children are heroes who deserve smiles with all the pain they must endure each moment of each day. Keep sharing their stories and fighting for a cure. Let's support each other, and together we can create smiles.

-Karen Peshkur, mother of Grace Peshkur
